Swingshift Big Band (East Sussex)

Aprile Biggs

Our vocalist Aprile Biggs was brought up with the sounds of the Swing era as her father had been a drummer in a jazz trio. She has a great feel for the music and says that her main vocal influences are probably Ella Fitzgerald, Diana Krall and Nancy Wilson, but Blossom Dearie and Peggy Lee are also favourites.

“I'm a great fan of Duke Ellington songs and have a real weakness for the piano playing of Erroll Garner, probably due to indoctrination at a very impressionable age. I've been fortunate to sing with some of the best musicians in the Brighton and Worthing area in jazz venues, local pubs and functions.”

As well as being a fantastic jazz singer, Aprile is also a talented violinist / pianist and performs regularly around the area with her Irish Folk band. She leads her own jazz band and sings with our small group, The Late Shift.
